Many of us have had a back or body massage, some simply for relaxation, others for therapeutic reasons; sometimes the body just needs the assistance of a capable person to work knots and kinks out that keep getting our attention.
I had a most wonderful massage, my third one in three weeks. Today after the massage, the therapist and I had leisure time to just sit and visit. In the process she expressed interest and asked about spiritual direction, what it was, what I did, etc. etc. Her smart phone allowed us to look at a couple of my blog posts which she said she enjoyed reading.
Then she had an "ah ha" moment verbalizing out loud, "so, spiritual direction is really like a massage for the spirit!" Well, what a new way to express something so simple! I encouraged her to begin reading my blog, from the beginning, for history of spiritual direction, more about me and my training at http://desertrenewal.org/hesychia-sd-school/ as well as reading my web pages.
She also had never heard of spiritual direction. I am realizing this is often the case, so this "best kept secret" now may not be such a secret in the future! I hope she shouts it from the rooftops! If you or someone you may know could benefit from a spiritual companion to help "massage your spirit" consider an hour of spiritual direction.

Meditation for the Day
The kingdom of heaven is also for the lowly, the sinners, the repentant. "And they presented unto him gifts--gold, frankincense, and myrrh." Bring your frankincense--the consecration of your life to a worthy cause. Bring your myrrh--your sympathy and understanding and help. Lay them all at the feet of God and let Him have full use of them.''
Prayer for The Day
I pray that I may be truly thankful on this Christmas day. I pray that I may bring my gifts and lay them on the altar.

MERRY CHRISTMAS 2016
This year the Salvation Army kettles are not filling up which has that organization alarmed, thinking they will not be able to assist those who will need it this coming year. Last evening on the news the Packers' football team in Green Bay announced how the Packers assisted in raising money for the Salvation Army, to the tune of over $100,00!
Today, I reflect how amazing that was, however, if each of us gave what little (or lots) we could throughout the year we could practically erase the panic when a crisis occurred. I know this is a pipe dream but this time of year brings out the best in people!
My wish for each of you is that this coming 2017 will be the best ever for you and for your loved ones. May you share that "best" with those in need, knowing how God shared his "best" with us. God's gift of His Son has brought light into many dark areas of life. May you too, bring light into lives of those with whom you will be this holiday season!
Merry Christmas to you and yours!

OK, this is what we've all been waiting for!! The longest night of the year. We can all sleep until we start to grow to the mattress! Actually, don't you wonder if many of us don't really look forward to this "dark" day because we know that now the days will get longer...and not as dark?
What in our lives gives us that hope that during dark times in our lives personally that eventually the light will come. Maybe that's what this Christmas season is all about: knowing Someone came for each of us to bring light into our lives.

Waiting? Waiting for what? Well, today, many of us are waiting for this present snowfall and cold weather to get over and done with before we go out. Personally, it is a time to do other things inside that I have procrastinated doing for a while, including Christmas decorating.
On a spiritual level, though, the Christian world is waiting for Christmas. These four weeks before Christmas, called Advent, is a time to prepare ourselves spiritually for that special day, knowing "Christ is the Reason for the Season." We are encouraged to spend more time preparing ourselves spiritually during this time, maybe considering attending mass or praying a bit more, compared to our usual.
Many of us find ourselves busier than normal. Expectations become high. Sometimes there are family conflicts while preparing for the holiday get-togethers. With all that transpires during these weeks of preparation, spiritual direction may be a consideration, having a companion with whom you can process all these things with, assisting you with what is going on inside of your spirit.
Waiting is a very profound time; the Blessed Mother certainly knew that! If you are desiring to process all that is going on with you this holiday season, or this winter season and would like a spiritual companion to assist you, consider calling for an appointment for spiritual direction. It might be the best gift you could give yourself!

Season's Greetings to you and yours!
