Have you ever been the focus of a tirade from someone who blasted you but in reality, the issue was much deeper than what might appear on the surface? I recently had this happen to me yet, the real issue was how much freedom was being lost.
I went through this when my husband kept deteriorating, finally ended up in a nursing home and couldn't drive. The final loss of freedom was that he had to leave his lifetime home and the shrine he and his dad had built to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary. Until he verbalized this to me I would never have guessed.
As July 4 has come and gone, there are veterans and those who have come to the United States as refugees. They express such love for what they have found here, unlike the country they fled. Only after listening to their stories can we get a perspective. Natural born Americans take so much for granted.
Perhaps it would be helpful to connect with a veteran or a person who has immigrated to America. Once we understand what their journey has been like might we have a deeper appreciation for what we have and could lose if we take life for granted. I would certainly hate to lose our democracy in this modern American era. That would be the hugest loss of freedom for all of us! Think about it! It is never too late to realize how fragile freedom is!
