There was a farmer who was having a heck of a time getting a calf into the barn. The farmer tried pushing the calf into the barn when a milkmaid came along. She moistened her thumb with milk from a pail of milk, stuck her thumb into the calve's mouth and led him into the barn. No pushing required!Ever find yourself in a life situation similar to this? Have you ever wanted to scream, to "push the button" trying to make something happen faster, now, today, not tomorrow? I was reminded of that today when a neighbor stopped by and shared his experience while helping someone but then the person he was helping was treating him more like a hired hand rather than a gift sent by another person.
Every day I make a review of my day and ponder whether I have been like the farmer: pushy, aggressive, demanding or antagonistic. The story of the milkmaid comes to mind.
How do each one of us treat others especially during frustrating situations? Do we get pushy, trying to push and push, trying to get our way across? Being calm and assertive rather than loud and aggressive is a challenge for many. Maybe a visual of a milkmaid leading a calf into the barn should be a reminder for us each and every day.
