Since Easter I have been wondering how I can live the Resurrection every day, in a real practical way. I don't remember ever letting this get to my conscience like it has this year. Maybe age and realizing I'm getting closer and closer to "the other side of the hill!" Have you ever thought about this for yourself? I thank God every day for giving us His Son, Jesus to come to this earth to go down that road to his death for us! That has caught my attention so much this Lent, it nearly boggles my mind. God gave His best in his Son, Jesus; How can I give my best every day? Let's be practical with every day issues.
Have you ever "missed the mark" and continued to focus on the blunder, forgetting your successes? It's a real bummer when we are less than what we would like to be. There are simply times when we fall short in our words, our relationships, in what we do and in what we fail to do. Jesus was one of the biggest "failures" in the opinion of many around him.
Ever want to cut corners? I do, especially when in the shopping parking lot. I often don't want to return the cart to the cart stall but then I remember, "always do the next right thing!" What Jesus did as he won our salvation..no shortcut there! How about forgiveness? Pretty hard and painful to do but Jesus gave his life to forgive his enemies. As hard as forgiveness is, He forgave the hardest issues.
Have you ever had friends abandon the friendship, betray you or worse? I really think of Jesus with his disciples, local townspeople and others who betrayed and crucified him. If anyone understands our struggles, it certainly is Jesus. Often each one of us can be an ambassador of change for the better. Maybe our example or even our words of encouragement can help another.
Are there situations that cause you to be afraid? This is probably a stupid question because each one of us has encountered something in our life that triggered fear. Jesus certainly sweat blood as he faced his death but during these dark hours knew his Father in heaven was there to carry him through.
Taking time in prayer each day, talking with God, then listening to God will guide us how to live in union with Him as a Resurrection people. These are only a few ways that may strike a cord with you as it has with me. Easter is not just a holy day; it is a call to all of us to live in a new way, a new life.
I wonder what this world would be like if each of us changed our ways just a little bit...what a ripple effect that might have! Consider trying it! I challenge you!
